Idaho Main Street Program in Full Swing

Last week, the Idaho Department of Commerce announced its support of the Main Street program and named an Idaho Main Street Executive Director.

Over the past 30 years, the Main Street movement has transformed the way communities think about the revitalization and management of their downtowns. Cities and towns across the nation have come to see that a prosperous, sustainable community is only as healthy as its core.

The Main Street Four-Point Approach® is a unique preservation-based economic development tool that enables communities to revitalize downtown and neighborhood business districts by leveraging local assets - from historic, cultural, and architectural resources to local enterprises and community pride. It is a comprehensive strategy that addresses the variety of issues and problems that challenge traditional commercial districts (information taken from http://www.mainstreet.org/).

In the past year, the Downtown Nampa Association has paticipated in several Main Street trainings and has adopted the Main Street model. Since then, the Downtown Nampa Association has made great strides in organization, event planning and partnering with those outside Nampa's downtown in its efforts toward revitilization.

Nampa's group of Downtown leaders continues to need the assistance of enagaged citizens and leaders in the community. If you're interested in finding out how you can help, or joining a Downtown Nampa committee, contact Alli Schisler at 468-5430 or info@cityofnampa.us.
